L&Q and Mount Anvil in the Community

L&Q and Mount Anvil share a commitment to improving and giving back to the communities in which we work.

As a charitable housing association, social purpose is at the core of L&Q’s work. This includes the running of our £250 million charitable L&Q Foundation to build opportunity and confidence in communities. The Foundation aims to support individuals to lead resilient and independent lives, sustain their tenancies and stay in their homes.

We also run a £5 million a year training academy which creates work opportunities for our residents while helping to address skills shortages.

Mount Anvil
As with all our developments in London, we are passionate about developing strong, mutually-beneficial relationships with the local community in Whitechapel. Building and strengthening those relationships by holding ourselves to the highest standards of the Considerate Constructors Scheme, offering local companies the chance to tender for contracts on site and advertising vacancies and apprenticeship opportunities locally is all part of our commitment to leaving a positive legacy in Whitechapel.

Futures Foundry from Mount Anvil

Futures Foundry from Mount Anvil launched in April 2018 at the Whitechapel Central site. Here people from across the community can undertake formal courses, or learn on the job with us. Local councils and communities are welcome to use the hub and run community events, ranging from gardening clubs to employability sessions. It also creates a safe and fun environment for the future construction workforce to learn about the industry and gain new skills through NVQs, apprenticeships and work placements.

In its first year, Futures Foundry from Mount Anvil will offer 1,000 Londoners the chance to have exposure to construction-related jobs from logistics, to bricklaying, to first aid courses and much more:

Employability skills workshops, CV writing, completing application forms and interview techniques.
Introduction to trades - workshops allowing people to try their hand at different trades.
Work experience opportunities - allowing individuals to see what life in construction is really like.

Want to take part? Get in touch with Mount Anvil’s Head of Skills and Employment Framework Bryn Parker.

Futures Foundry from Mount Anvil follows on from two successful years of the National Skills Academy for Construction at Keybridge.

Giving Back

Mount Anvil
One of our key commitments is to create genuine relationships and to share our success with the communities that we live and work in. We work with local charities and interest groups at each of our developments, donating time, expertise and much-needed funds to help them make a real difference to the local community. It's part of our legacy in London.

We've donated more than £1 million to good causes in London since 2010, and we'll continue giving back to communities across the capital.

We also work alongside local communities in order to ensure that all voices are heard and that our time working in the area is a positive one for all parties.

We will be looking for small local charities that provide valuable services to the local community to partner with and support. If you would like to nominate a charity, please get in touch via CommunityLiaison@mountanvil.com.

The L&Q Foundation
L&Q is driven by a social purpose which has always gone beyond just building houses. Our mission is to create homes and neighbourhoods that we can be proud of and the work of the L&Q Foundation is fundamental to this. The L&Q Foundation develops and funds social interventions that improves people’s chances in life and creates opportunities in our communities.

Our new three-year strategy will see us support our social housing tenants and members of their household to live independent lives, and help them sustain their tenancies with us. Alongside this we will invest in activities that increase opportunity and aspiration for both individuals and the wider communities we create and manage.

The L&Q Foundation is funded each year by L&Q. Over the next three years it is our intention to invest £30 million into L&Q's residents and communities.
